1949年，多灾多难的神州大地迎来曙光，经过绵延数年的战火，中国共产党终于夺取了政权，建立了新中国。然而广袤的土地上仍有包括国民党在内不少残余势力的存在，因此我人民子弟兵依旧在各地浴血奋战。湖南湘西，祖国民风骠悍，此地不仅有国民党中统的势力盘桓，更有多如繁星的土匪纵横跋扈。这一日，搭载着战备物资和文工团战士的军车驶入湘西凤尾山，向着共军第79团的营地前进。以司徒慧为代表的文工团战士们载歌载舞，歌唱美好的明天，却全然不知危险正在逼近。土匪乌九率众袭击了军车，掠去物资，并将司徒慧等人抓为俘虏。 司徒慧是国民党老左派司徒澜的独女，其身份之特殊引起各方关注。司徒澜数日后将从香港来至北平参加第一次全国政协会议。为此，共产党派出连长丁立峰率队营救司徒慧，而中统少校冷汉章也奉命干预，以阻止政协会议的召开。三方角力就此展开……。Growing up in a small town, Charlie, Alex and Nick weren't the most popular kids around after they formed "The Elite Monster Unit". Chasing notorious, mythical legends and ghosts was exciting to them, not "cool" to the other kids around. So they lived their lives on the outside of the "in" crowd. Ngor饰）是辛尼的当地翻译兼助手。辛尼在潘迪的帮助下，多次化险为夷逃过鬼门关。两人在战火纷飞中结下了深厚的友谊。1975年，红色高棉占领金边。辛尼得以全身而退，然而潘迪却因为没有护照而被捕，开始了生不如死的地狱生活。在柬共的劳动改造中，潘迪目睹了红色高棉政权的残暴血腥，受到了非人的待遇。1978年，越共入侵柬埔寨，潘迪趁机逃亡到泰国边境，与一直在寻找他的老朋友辛尼重逢。 本片荣获1985年第57届奥斯卡金像奖最佳男配角、最佳摄影和最佳电影剪辑三项大奖。。
